The Story

"Give me the child..."  This is how the story of a young girl named Sarah starts.  When Sarah wishes her baby brother would get taken away by goblins, her wish comes true.   The goblin king comes to Sarah, and offers her gifts.  In return she would have to forget about Toby.  She refuses, and Jareth, the goblin king, sends Sarah on a quest to find her baby brother, before he becomes a goblin too.  She has "Thirteen hours in which to solve the labyrinth..."
"You know your problem?  You take too many things for granted"  Sarah meets many strange creatures in the Labyrinth, the first of which is a dwarf named Hoggle.  Hoggle is supposed to keep Sarah from solving the labyrinth, and at first he is simply unhelpful.   Sarah leaves Hoggle at the entrance to the labyrinth and sets off on her own.   Sarah and Hoggle meet again later, and she bribes him into "Taking her as far as he can go..."
"I ain't never been nobody's friend before..."  Hoggle and Sarah stay together, until Hoggle's cowardice gets the better of him.  At the sound of a loud roar from around the bend, Hoggle runs off.  Sarah, who now knows that "nothing is what it seems"   is unafraid, and continues on.  She now finds several goblins torturing a large fuzzy beast hanging upside down.  Sarah throws rocks (that seem to come from nowhere) and drives the goblins away.  She talks to the beast, and learns his name is Ludo.  And he "Seems like such a nice beast"
"I have to get through this labyrinth..." Sarah and Ludo try to maneuver the labyrinth together, but Ludo doesn't know the way either. They suddenly get separated, and Sarah is once again on her own.  Lost and alone in a murky forest, Sara stumbles upon a nest of very strange creatures, the fireys.  These strange creatures dance and chase her around the forest, encouraging her to stay with them.  Sarah flees, only to find herself against a wall.  Hoggle appears then, and throws her a rope to climb to safety.  "Grab it!!!"
"Hoggle?!" Sarah takes the advice and grabs the rope.  She is pulled to safety, and thanks Hoggle with a kiss.   Enraged that Sarah would bestow a kiss on Hoggle, Jareth banishes them both to the bog of eternal stench, a place that, in the eloquent words of Ludo, "SSSMMMEEELLL BBBAAADDD!!!!"
"That's Ludo, he's a friend too"  Sarah explains to Hoggle, and the trio tries to find a way to get out of the stench.  They find a bridge, and rush to cross it, only to be halted by a small ferce creature.  The small creature introduces himself as Sir Didymus and refuses to let them pass.  Ludo and he start to duel, and during the confusion Hoggle sneaks past and crosses the bridge.  Ludo and Didymus fight to a standstill, and Didymus declares Ludo his match in battle.  Sarah finally tries the obvious, and asks for Didymus' permission to cross the bridge.  His answer is a slightly confused "...Yes?"
"It looked sturdy enough"  While trying to cross the bridge, it collapses under Sarah's weight.  This development sheds new light on their fuzzy friend Ludo.  The rocks themselves are Ludo's friends, and at his call they move into place below Sarah, letting her, and the others, cross the bridge.  Didymus joins the group in trying to find the castle at the center of the labyrinth.  As they leave Hoggle tries to dispose of a peach Jareth has given him as a 'present for Sarah'.  Jareth warns him that that would be a bad idea.  Hoggle keeps the peach, and soon gives it to her, against his will.   "Hoggle, what have you done?"
"Everything's dancing..."   Sarah bites the poisoned peach and is transported into a drugged hallucination.  She finds herself in one of Jareth's crystals at a strange masquerade ball dancing with Jareth himself.  She fights her way free, breaking the wall of the crystal.  She falls out of the hallucination and into a huge trash heap.  Sarah tries to stand and discovers that some of the trash is attached to the back of an old woman.  "Why don't you look where you are going young woman?"
"I was looking..."  I was looking, Sarah tells the woman, and the woman leads Sarah into a room exactly like her room at home.  Sarah is momentarily stalled by all her familiar toys and belongings, but quickly remembers her quest to find Toby. "I have to find Toby!!!"
"My lady, are you alright?"  Sarah frees herself from the old trash-woman and is helped to her feet by Ludo and Didymus.  Hoggle is nowhere to be seen.   The group is just outside the goblin city.  They rush to the gates of the city, and fight their way in.  they almost lose the battle with the gate keeper, but Hoggle rushes in and saves the day.  Sarah forgives him for giving her the peach, and the four of them go on to challenge Jareth.  "Let's go!"
"I smell trouble"  Getting through the city is not as easy as they thought it would be, but with the help of Ludo's rock friends, they make it through the city and into the castle at the center of the labyrinth, where Jareth is waiting with Toby.  Sarah chooses to leave the company of her friends now, and faces Jareth alone.   Hoggle Ludo, and Didymus all swear that they will be there for Sarah, "If ya need us"
"Give me the child..."  Sarah has come to the final showdown with Jareth, and only her shear willpower will get her through now.  Jareth tries to convince her to stay with him, to accept him as her love, but Sarah refuses, and remembers those magic words she so often forgot before, "You have no power over me"
With those words Sarah frees Toby, just as the clock strikes thirteen.  She is sent home, and finds Toby sleeping in his bed.  She is much wiser now than when she first started, and decides that Toby can keep her stuffed bear Lancelot.  She has grown up allot because of this quest, but she still needs her friends Hoggle Ludo Didymus and the rest.  She tells them this through her bedroom mirror, and they all come into her room for one last celebration.
